  • A Personal Note to Our Customers

I have been diving with and working for Aquatic Sports for over 10 years now, the amount of respect I have for the owners, staff, and business overall cannot properly be expressed. The past two years that I have been working and teaching full time have been an amazing experience. I have met fantastic new people and learned a great deal. An opportunity has arisen that will allow me to continue that learning process and move upward in the industry I have become so passionate about, and after much debate I have decided to move on from Aquatic Sports. I want to thank my fellow instructors and co-workers, and most of all the customers that keep the business alive and share the love for this sport as I do. I will continue to stay as involved as I am able, teaching freediving and joining in on local dive trips.

Thank you all so much for the past two years.

    Sincerely,
    Colin Ackerman

  • Did you know that more people have been to the moon than the bottom of the Ocean? Did you know we have only been there once and it was in 1960? Did you know James Cameron has designed and built a submarine to head there again? Video and more after the jump…

James Cameron, most recently known as the director of Avatar (although The Abyss was a million times better and came out years ago, oh and he did those Terminator movies also) is also the current National Geographic Explorer In Residence. You can read more about what that is here, but its safe to say its one of the best jobs ever. As you can see in the video he is planning on taking his new submersible, alone, down to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, the deepest point ever recorded on earth at somewhere around 35,000ft (deep enough we haven’t accurately measured it yet). Needless to say I think this is possibly the most exciting thing to happen in science in my lifetime, Cameron is supposed to head down some time in the next few weeks and live stream as much as he can of the trip, I am going to be glued to my desk chair for that.

  • If you have never heard of Bamboo Sushi in Portland then you really have been living underwater! They have produced what I would call a STUNNING stop motion video discussing sushi and sustainable fishing, WATCH IT! after the jump…

The Story of Sushi from Bamboo Sushi on Vimeo.

Its a bit of a tear jerker at the end, as divers we really are stewards of the oceans and should be all over this sort of thing. Bamboo is making a commitment to provide great food without compromising our environment. We should all be this outgoing.
