OPEN WATER INSTRUCTOR
Learn to be a Scuba Instructor the "SSI Way." Most instructor programs focus only on teaching diving. However, most dive businesses require much more of instructors than merely teaching. The SSI Instructor Training Course (ITC) prepares you to become an active member of the scuba industry, a successful educator, and a valuable dive business employee.
Your training includes:
Techniques for recruiting, teaching and evaluating students
The SSI Education System and Education Philosophy
How dive industry stakeholders interact (manufacturers, media, agencies, retail and travel)
How successful dive retailers and resorts operate
Effective techniques for teaching in the pool and open water
Legal aspects of teaching
The basics of educational sales using SSI's Customer Loyalty Cycle
Why SSI instructors are more marketable:
SSI Instructors possess business knowledge that instructors from other agencies don't. The expanded course content of the SSI ITC gives you an edge over "teaching only" programs and makes you a much more valuable, well-rounded employee.
SSI Instructors represent the best of both worlds. You are trained to use the award-winning SSI Teaching System and you are trained to be a skilled educator.
SSI Instructors are able to conduct the Universal Referral Program. This program allows you to complete referral dives through six different agencies: IDEA, NASDS, NAUI, PDIC, SSI and the YMCA. This is particularly valuable to resorts that receive customers affiliated with various certification agencies.
What else can you teach?
Open Water Diver
Passport Diver Program
Try Scuba
Scuba Skills Update
Scuba Rangers (after completing the Scuba Rangers Instructor training)
SSI Authorized Scuba Schools and the New Instructor.
As a new Instructor, your first few classes can be a little intimidating. When you work for an SSI Authorized Scuba School, you are teaching in an established scuba school with experienced instructors. They can assist with your first few courses and they have a wealth of knowledge to help you progress.
Already an Instructor and Just Need to Crossover?
SSI has a convenient crossover program for instructors affiliated with recognized agencies. Our premise is that since you are already an instructor, you only need to learn how SSI's Teaching System and Education Philosophy function.

LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE
As symbolized in SSI's Diver Diamond, experience is a crucial factor in becoming a comfortable, competent diver. SSI is the only agency that offers divers a way to measure their experience and provide goals to aim for.
Because diving often becomes a lifetime of adventure, SSI's Ten Levels of Experience start at five dives and culminate with 5,000 dives. Your SSI authorized dealer can upgrade your certification card and dive log every time you reach a new level. Then when you go diving and show your certification card, you will get the recognition that a diver with your experience so richly deserves.
LEVELS OF RECOGNITION
A small, but very special group of divers around the world have the privilege to carry the SSI Platinum Pro 5000 Diver Card--the highest recognition level in the diving industry. This group is comprised of the "who's who" of the diving world; the most renowned scientists, manufacturers, instructors, retailers and resort operators--diving's ambassadors.
The SSI Levels of Recognition symbolize excellence, commitment and loyalty in diving. A Level 5 Diver with 100 dives is eligible for the Century Diver Recognition Card. The Gold 500 Diver is a Level 9 Diver with 500 recorded dives. The Platinum 1000 Diver has reached level 10 and the 1,000 dive mark. And the highest honor,
the Platinum Pro 5000 Diver, is reserved for divers that have reached the pro level and surpassed 5,000 dives. Visit the Platinum Pro Foundation's website to learn more about the Platinum Pro 5000 Diver Award and see the list of award winners.
TOTAL DIVE LOG SYSTEM
Because diving is a lifetime of adventure, you'll want to capture your experiences and relive the excitement of every dive. SSI's Total Dive Log System is not only a record book for your dives, but also a powerful organizational tool that tracks every aspect of diving.
Your training will show you how to:
Record diving memories
Provide proof of your Level of Experience
Chart your progress towards SSI's Levels of Recognition
Provide a record of training
Record all of your equipment and track the maintenance of each item
Hold your certification cards, equipment warranty cards, diving insurance
cards, and two pens in a good container so that nothing is lost
